Il teatro delle emozioni: la gelosia

In its first part, this volume brings together the papers presented at the 4th International Conference 'The Theatre of Emotions – Jealousy', organized at the University of Padua in collaboration with the Centre for Studies on Classical Theatre of the University of Turin, alongside additional contributions that further enrich the overview of the subject. Rather than a mere theme, emotions constitute an important category to be employed in literary criticism: in this instance, jealousy serves as common ground for dialogue among classical philologists, theatre historians, and musicologists, who are invited to engage with the complex experience of dramatic literature—from the ancient world to the 20th century—through a variety of investigative methods and approaches. When combined, these perspectives allow us both to delve into the specificity of individual works and to view the 'phenomenon of jealousy' as a whole from a broader vantage point. The section 'Snapshots and Perspectives' is followed by a second section, 'The Workshop of "The Theatre of Emotions: Jealousy"', which gathers the work of students from several classical high schools (licei classici). Their contributions accompany the exploration of a challenging theme, frequently enriching the debate with their fresh sensibility and reading experience.
